The Deep Sky Alpha project marks a decisive step in Skyrenu's industrialization trajectory.
It corresponds to the first industrial deployment of the company's modular direct air capture platform, with a 50 tCO₂/year capacity unit integrated with geological sequestration onsite.

This project aims to demonstrate the reliability, continuity of operation and industrial integration of the system in a real environment, while preparing for the transition to higher capacity units.

It also illustrates Skyrenu's ability to deliver capture systems ready for integration by specialist industrial operators.

The Deep Sky Alpha project allows Skyrenu to validate its direct air capture technology in a continuous operating framework and in a complete industrial environment.

Industrial deployment and site integration

The 50 tCO₂/year unit was sold to Deep Sky and then integrated into its industrial site in Alberta.
The system is operated as part of a project combining direct air capture and geological sequestration.

This deployment goes beyond a simple technical demonstration. It allows for the evaluation of the system in a complete context, including continuous operation, site integration, and interfacing with a permanent sequestration chain.

Partnership with Deep Sky

The project is based on a clear division of roles between Skyrenu and Deep Sky.

Skyrenu designs and manufactures the DAC system, then supports its industrial integration.

Deep Sky operates the site, ensures integration into the sequestration infrastructure and takes care of the permanent storage of the captured CO₂.

This partnership illustrates Skyrenu's preferred deployment model: the sale and service of modular low-concentration CO₂ capture systems to industrial operators specializing in CO₂ sequestration or utilization.

Deployed technology

The Deep Sky Alpha project implements Skyrenu's modular technology platform applied to direct air capture.
This technology is based on:

  • a functionalized solid adsorbent based on amines;
  • monolithic sorbent reactors;
  • a continuous process of adsorption and regeneration.


The process captures CO₂ directly from the ambient air and then releases it in a concentrated form, ready for sequestration. The system's modular architecture facilitates its adaptation to increasing capture capacities.

A crucial pre-commercial step

The Deep Sky Alpha project does not yet correspond to a standardized, large-scale offering.
However, it represents a structuring step in the trajectory of Skyrenu's commercial deployment.
It is a technology pilot to validate:

  • the company's ability to deliver a capture system to a third-party industrial operator;
  • the performance of the system in real-world operation coupled with a sequestration infrastructure;
  • reducing technical and deployment risks for higher capacity units.

The results from this project support the preparation of the next generations of systems and the structuring of Skyrenu's commercial offering.

Continuity of development

The Deep Sky Alpha project is a continuation of the work carried out by Skyrenu since 2021 to advance its low concentration CO₂ capture platform.
This work has notably enabled:

  • the validation of the use of captured CO₂ in downstream sequestration;
  • the installation of a first system at an industrial operating site.
