SHERBROOKE (December 2, 2024) — Skyrenu Technologies Inc., a Sherbrooke-based carbon removal company, is pleased to welcome XPRIZE Carbon Removal as part of its site visit, scheduled to take place in Sherbrooke and Thetford Mines on December 4 and 5. Skyrenu was selected in May 2024 as one of 20 finalists competing for the $50M Grand Prize in the XPRIZE Carbon Removal competition, to be awarded in 2025. Finalists are evaluated by a panel of qualified judges, and this site visit is a key step in the evaluation of each team.

Based on research at the University of Sherbrooke, Skyrenu's innovative technology integrates a modular system for capturing CO directly from the atmosphere with an innovative process for carbonating mining and industrial residues to trap CO2 in a sustainable way.

Removing carbon from the atmosphere is essential to achieving net-zero emissions and reducing the impacts of climate change, but this should not be used as an excuse to avoid further emissions reductions: all of these solutions will need to be scaled up simultaneously to achieve our climate goals.
